Charming of the Plough Blót – 2010

This was a ritual I wrote and performed back in 2010 for a group of folks from different paths. We had created a lovely cart with decorations and a covered figure from items found at the local Goodwill. Since I found everything so easily, and the image of what it should be was so clear, I took that as a sign that Nerþus was quite ready for a rite of her own.

Honoring of the Disir and Nerþus

  1. Welcoming the folk and describing the purpose
    1. A bidding of farewell to winter:  Giving Skadhi her due
    2. Welcoming of the early spring to the land
    3. Honoring our Disir for the traditions and lessons that we observe even today
    4. Welcoming of Nerþus in her Fertility/Earth Mother form
  2. Hammer Rite 
    1. A general round consecration rather than a four quarter
  3. Focusing of Energies
    1. Quick meditation to help the folk get centered and grounded
      1. Use of Yggdrassil as a focal point
        1. The touching of all 9 realms
        2. The weaving of the wyrds of those gathered to the purpose of the rite
        3. The connection we all have through the carving of our Orlog
  4. Light of the 9 candles in honor of the 9 realms (NOT a gate opening)
  5. Honoring of our Disir (grandmothers, mothers, female ancestors)
    1. A time to give thanks by offerings to those women that sacrificed so much so that we could live and worship today
  6. Story of Nerþus
    1. The cart with ‘Nerþus’ in it is brought around to bless the folk and the tools they have brought.

  9. Blot with potluck (horn will be passed at THIS point, not before)
    1. Starts with 3 rounds
      1. First round to Nerþus
      2. Second round to the Disir/Ancestors/Heroes
      3. Open round where other deities and hearths can be acknowledged
  10. Returning unused to the earth
  11. Rite is over
